I was diagnosed with PCOS

This is a very personal story but I wanted to write about what has been a really  emotional journey for me and thought that maybe this post could help someone who is going (or has gone through) the same thing. When I was a teenager my mom took me to see a gynaecologist, as I had not had my period yet. I remember being so scared - especially so because it wasn't just my normal first time check-up. From the beginning I felt that there was something wrong with me. After my doctor examined me (it was a pelvic ultrasound, no external exams), she said she couldn't give me a full diagnosis but I remember something being said along the lines of early menopause and infertility. Honestly, it did not make much sense to a 15-year-old.   I was prescribed a contraceptive pill to help trigger my period. There was no proper explanation as to why or how it would help and I had to take notes for everything, from when my period started and ended, to my moods and how I felt in general. For s...

Third trimester // Pregnancy tag

I know I am very late with my third trimester post but I really wanted to end my trimester updates before I write anything else about the baby. I thought it would be a bit more interesting to do this in a question/answer format, as most of these questions were on my mind a lot when I was in the last stages of my pregnancy. 1. How many months pregnant were you when the baby was born? I was 39 weeks + 5 days pregnant when Saskia was born. 2. Is this your first? Do you want more kids? Yes, this is my first. I would definitely like to have more kids. I only have one sibling and Tristan has five younger brothers - I love the idea Saskia growing up in a big family. 3. Did you wait three months to tell? To friends yes, but I told my parents the same day I found out I was pregnant. 4. How did your family react to the news? My parents were very happy for us. My mum started crying when I told her, happy tears of course. 5. Did you find out the sex of the baby? Yes, Tristan and I want...

Second trimester update

As I am now in my third trimester, I thought I'd give you a little update on how the baby and I have been. The second trimester has been the most enjoyable part of my pregnancy so far; my morning sickness has passed and my appetite is back! Second trimester scan Around my 20th week I had an anomaly scan to check if the baby was developing normally and that there weren't any complications. Everything was good and no problems were found! Of course it was also an opportunity to find out who we were expecting. For some reason I had the feeling that I was going to have a boy but when we were told it was going to be a girl, Tristan's face just lit up! He really wanted to have a girl first. Antenatal appointments I have been seeing my midwife at my local health centre more regularly and up until now everything has been great. She has been doing all of the regular checks, listening to the baby's heartbeat and giving me advice. I have had my flu shot, my whooping cou...

I am pregnant! First trimester

Hello, I'm back! I didn't think I'd pick up blogging again, as so much has happened over the past year and I didn't think I'd be in the mood to write again... but this is such positive, happy news I wanted to share it with you all. I am expecting a baby!  There is a bit of story here as I am diagnosed with PCOS but this is something I will talk about another time. To be honest, Tristan and I didn't expect that it would happen so soon, so it was such amazing news for us when we found out that I was pregnant in early May. It was a week before our holiday to Australia and I felt double excited (more about the baby of course). We decided to keep it between us until I had my hospital appointments, scans and knew how many weeks along I was. Unfortunately there wasn't enough time to book an appointment with my local GP before our trip, so I went to see a private doctor. I wanted to get some peace of mind, find out what to expect in the coming weeks and what my ne...
